i) General / Unreserved / General-EWS applicants with at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences, Computer Science & Applications from Universities/Institutions recognized by UGC are eligible for this Test. Candidates from the Scheduled Caste (SC) of H.P., Scheduled Tribe (ST) of H.P., Other Backward Classes (Non-creamy layer of H.P.), and Persons with Disability (PWD) of H.P. categories who have obtained at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in master’s degree are eligible for this test.
ii) This test is open to applicants who are enrolled in a master’s program or an equivalent course, candidates who have taken their qualifying master’s degree (final year) examination but have not yet received their results, and students whose qualifying tests have been postponed. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and will be considered eligible for the post of Assistant Professor in the State’s Universities/Colleges only after passing their master’s degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% marks in the case of SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer) and PWD (Persons with Disability) category candidates of H.P.). Such candidates must complete their P.G. Degree examination with the required percentage of marks within two years of the date of the SET result.
HP SET Eligibility Criteria 2023
i)

Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination was finished by September 19, 1991 (regardless of date of result declaration) will be eligible for a 5% reduction in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in SET.
iv)
Candidates should only appear in the subject of their post-graduation. Candidates whose postgraduate subject is not included in the list of SET subjects may appear in the UGC-NET/Joint CSIR-UGC Test (for example, candidates with a postgraduate degree in Acharya (Traditional Sanskrit) are not eligible to appear in Sanskrit subject). Similarly, a candidate with a degree in Hotel Management is ineligible to take the Tourism Administration topic. HPPSC will not be held liable if an applicant passes the SET Examination in a subject other than the subject of his Master’s Degree.
v)
Candidates belonging to the SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer) /PWD (General PWD, S.C. PWD, S.T. PWD, and OBC PWD) categories must ensure that their paternal lineage certificate is given by the relevant authority.
vi)
Candidates with a post-graduate diploma/certificate from an Indian university/institute or a foreign degree/diploma/certificate from a foreign university/institute should check with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, to see if their diploma/degree/certificate is equivalent to a master’s degree from a recognized Indian university.

Exemption/Eligibility for HPPSC SET Exam 2023
The minimum eligibility requirement for recruitment and employment of Assistant Professor(s) at Universities/Colleges/Institutions will continue to be NET/SET. Candidates who are or have been awarded a Ph. D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Awarding a Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor(s) or equivalent positions in Universities/ Colleges/ Institutions.
For SET Candidates: Candidates who passed the UGC-accredited State Eligibility Test (SET) for Assistant Professor eligibility prior to 1 June 2002 are excused from appearing in NET and are eligible to appear/apply for Assistant Professor(s) wherever in India. For SETs held after June 1, 2002, qualified applicants are only entitled to apply for Assistant Professor(s) positions at universities/colleges in the state where they passed their SET. There is no age limit on how many times a candidate can appear in the SET.

HPPSC SET Exam Pattern 2023: The examination will consist of two papers. In two distinct sessions, both papers will consist of exclusively objective type multiple choice questions.

The questions will be of a general nature, designed to measure the candidate’s teaching/research ability. It will largely be aimed to assess the candidate’s reasoning skills, understanding, divergent thinking, and general awareness.

HP SET 2023 Marking Scheme
Each question is worth 02 (two) marks.
The candidate will receive 02 (two) marks for each right response.
There are no negative consequences for inaccurate responses.
No credit will be provided for questions that are not answered or attempted.
To answer a question, the candidate must select one of the proper options.
If a question is discovered to be wrong and is withdrawn / trashed, all candidates will receive two marks (+2). The cause could be due to human or technical mistake. Because there is no negative marking, the candidate must select the closest choice as the correct answer.
